Master Sports, LLC, (Master Sports) is a manufacturer and distributor of premium quality sporting goods equipment. For over ten years Master Sports manufactured the PrinceŽ tennis ball machines under a license agreement. In January 2006 Master Sports changed the brand to SAMŽ. SAMŽ was developed as the acronym for "Sports Action Machines" and was first used in conjunction with the big SAMŽ Robot in the mid-1990's.

The iSAMŽ Portable machines throw a flat tennis ball without imparting any spin on the ball. The SAMŽ machines, both Professional Portable and Commercial machines, have the ability to impart varying degrees of top and back spin on the tennis balls, as well as no-spin balls. (The iSAMŽ Portable machines were designed with the individual player in mind.)

All of our battery operated machines come with smart chargers.

A smart charger has a "smart" chip in the charging circuit that monitors the voltage. The smart chip allows you to safely fast charge your battery without worrying about overcharging it. Smart chargers will charge your battery more consistently because it can sense when your battery has reached a full charge by measuring the voltage rise and change. It will then switch to a trickle charge which will keep the battery fully charged until use. The smart chip also protects your battery from overcharge and overheating which will further extend the life of your battery.

With a smart charger you can leave your ball machine plugged in all winter and your battery will be topped off and ready to go in the spring. With a standard charger you will need to disconnect the ball machine after it is fully charged and then reconnect it every two weeks for an hour or two to top off the battery. Which scenario sounds more convenient to you? (Unlike our competitors, we don't charge extra for smart chargers--they come as a part of your ball machine purchase.)

Both the iSAMŽ and SAMŽ portable machines will fit into the trunk of most cars. The iSAMŽ Portable machine base unit is less than 16 inches (~40 cm) tall. The SAMŽ portable machine is less than 20 inches (~50cm) tall.

How do the SAMŽ ball machines and PrinceŽ ball machines compare? Other than the different brand names, the machines are identical in performance. The SAMŽ ball machines are made on the same production line with the same rigorous standards as the PrinceŽ ball machines that had been made by Master Sports, LLC, for the last ten years.

Ace tennis trainer Big SAM Robot serves 1,000 perfect shots (Big SAM Robot is no longer produced)

Tennis is one of the world's most popular sports, played regularly by an estimated 45 million people around the world. It is a game everyone can play, but to be good at it, you have to play with the best.

Technology helps, but until recently, the only technical training device used in tennis was the ball machine, capable of producing a very limited range of shots. Now, the ball machine has been aced by the Sports Action Machine (SAM), the ultimate tennis partner and computerized coaching aid.

Big SAM Robot is a sophisticated ball propulsion machine aimed at all levels of players, for training and coaching purposes. Invented by Daniel Elbaum with assistance from former Wibmledon champion Neale Fraser and commercialized by Sportech International Pty Ltd in 1994, the mains powered seven-axis tennis robot can deliver all known tennis shots to the beginner through to the professional international player.

In a coaching situation the Big SAM Robot can be programmed to send a predetermined drill sequence of shots to the player. From a control panel, the coach can select from a wide range of training drills made up from a database of over 1,000 different shots, choose skill levels, ball speeds and the time lag between shots. The hand held remote allows the selection to be controlled manually during a session, to repeat troublesome shots and alter drills.

The Big SAM Robot stands 2.87m tall, weighs about 100kg and serves from a maximum height of 2.75m. Servo motors send balls in controlled directions from a variety of heights, with speeds of up to 160km/h, with any type of spin. SAM has a capacity of 200 balls, providing a non-stop playing time of 10 to 20 minutes and can play right or left-handed.

In the future, SAM's ball propulsion technology, may be adapted to improve playing techniques and coaching methods for other sports.

Since H. Daniel Elbaum conceived SAM with the help of Grand Slam champion Neal Fraser in 1990, products such as the SAM Little Model 1 have changed the face of tennis. Today, more top-level professionals and coaches use SAM products than any other machines on the market.

SAM, formerly sold under the Prince name, is your source for the world’s most advanced, high-value tennis ball machines and accessories.

From the SAM Hot Shot with Remote to the AC/DC Converter, SAM can help players achieve new levels of skill and confidence.
