Question 1

Where do Master Sports summer camps run in Carmel Valley?

Accepted Answer

Camps run at four neighborhood venues: Carmel Valley Recreation Center (the main indoor gym), Pacific Highlands Ranch Recreation Center (a second indoor location serving the PHR side), Ocean Air Park (outdoor multi-sport), and the outdoor courts at Carmel Valley Rec (flag football). Most weeks, at least one camp is running at a venue within a short drive of Pacific Highlands Ranch, Del Mar Mesa, Torrey Hills, or Sage Canyon.

Question 2

Can my kid sign up for just one week, or do they need to commit to the whole summer?

Accepted Answer

Week by week is how most Carmel Valley families do it. The schedule is built so you can pick a single week, string a few together, or mix camps across the summer — a Game Changer multi-sport week, a Skill Builder Basketball week, a Skill Builder Flag Football week before fall season. You're not locked into one track, and you can sign up for just the weeks that fit your family's summer.

Question 3

What's the difference between Game Changer and Junior Sports?

Accepted Answer

Game Changer is the full-day multi-sport camp for school-age kids — fast-paced variety with basketball, soccer, flag football, dodgeball, Rally Kart racing, and laser tag mixed across the week. Junior Sports is the half-day version built for younger kids, pitched so small athletes actually get touches and play time rather than waiting on the sideline. Both run at Carmel Valley Recreation Center and Ocean Air Park.

Question 4

What's the difference between Skill Builder Basketball and Shot Reps Advanced Skills Camp?

Accepted Answer

Skill Builder Basketball is structured court time for players still building fundamentals — drills, small-sided games, and IPS Trainer sessions for reaction-time work. Shot Reps is the tier up: veteran coaching, Dr. Dish shooting machines, and a week built around footwork, ball-handling, and decision-making for players already committed to basketball and ready for more serious work.

Question 5

Are there indoor camp options when it gets hot?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Carmel Valley Recreation Center and Pacific Highlands Ranch Recreation Center run indoor weeks all summer — Skill Builder Basketball, Shot Reps, Xtreme Dodgeball & Games, and Adventure Laser Tag are all indoor camps. Parents often schedule indoor weeks during the hottest stretches and outdoor Game Changer or flag football weeks on the milder ones.

Question 6

What should my kid bring to camp?

Accepted Answer

Water bottle, sneakers they can run in, and a snack for the half-day break. For outdoor camps at Ocean Air Park or the Carmel Valley Rec courts, add sunscreen and a hat. Laser Tag and indoor gym camps don't need anything special — just court shoes. Full details come with your confirmation email after sign-up.

Question 7

Can I do back-to-back weeks at different venues?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and a lot of families do. The same kid might do a Game Changer week at Ocean Air Park, then a Skill Builder Basketball week at Carmel Valley Recreation Center, then an Adventure Laser Tag week after that — all on the normal Carmel Valley summer rhythm. The sign-up flow treats every week independently, so you can mix venues and camp types as you go.
